FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I want a website, but what's next?

Feel free to call with any questions, or begin by reading my getting started page.

After we've put the site up, how do we get people there?

Search engines are important, but getting listed on them is becoming more and more of a challenge, so you'll want to build publicity by any means possible. Here's a list of ideas.

I know I need a website, but will I be able to afford it?

Since I aim for simplicity and straightforward design, my projects end up costing clients less than bloated, "bells & whistles" sites. And these days, the importance of a website is similar to that of the tri-fold brochure in the early days of desktop publishing. It's worthwhile even if you're only establishing a very basic presence online. That site broadcasts your message around the clock and around the world.

I'm an AOL member; can I put my website there?

No, because AOL doesn't host domain names. For more info on domain names and hosting, see my getting started page.

Metaglyph is based in New York City -- far away from where I'm located. How can we work together to design a website or printed piece?

You'd be amazed at how much can be done by phone, fax, email and the web. Although some of my clients and I have never met face to face, we're able to work just as well as if we were sitting in the same room. Thanks to the web and email, we can review draft web pages online, and review drafts of printed pieces via PDF (Portable Document Format) files.

How can I be sure that my website will work properly on different computers and in different browsers?

Simplicity. Since my sites are built on basic design principles, the results are more predictable than with Web pages containing too much JavaScript, DHTML, animation, multimedia, and the like.

I like a straightforward approach, but I also want some "bells & whistles" -- can you help me with that?

We'll include anything that's needed to better communicate your message. Applied sensibly, extras such as animation can work well. If your site requires a database back end or e-commerce, I can bring in highly-qualified colleagues specializing in those areas. Please keep in mind, though, that development, testing and revision of such advanced elements will take more time and thus cost more.

After the site is up and running, it will need to be updated from time to time. Is this something I can do myself?

Depending on your skill level, you may be able to update content yourself, but I'm available to provide ongoing support and maintenance for your site.
